The Beatles said it best when they said “all you need is love”, and while it’s incredible to be surrounded by a loving family, loving friends or a loving partner, don’t forget that the most important person you’ll ever love in your life is YOU. There’s a common misconception out there that self-love is selfish, but I think it’s actually the complete opposite, because the relationship we have with ourselves, sets the tone for every other relationship in our lives. In the spirit of the launch of our brand new LOVE Collection, we thought it was time to help you get that self-love flowing… Here are 3 of my top tips to help you get started!
Speak kindly to yourself
It’s so easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others and think “why don’t I have feet like hers”, “her pirouettes are better than mine” or “I wish I was taller”. We’re all guilty of doing this from time to time and probably don’t even realise we’re doing it, but our inner voice is so powerful so it’s time to rewire the conversation. If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, you shouldn’t say it to yourself! Start by giving yourself one compliment out loud every day - it could be “wow your hair looks great today” or “I love my strong calves, they really helped me nail my petit allégro today”. Wearing these little hearts on your ears will help serve as a good daily reminder to speak to yourself with love.
Put a little effort in
It’s amazing how different you feel with freshly washed hair or one of your favourite go-to-outfits and I think that self-care is an important part of self-love. Just to clarify, this isn’t about the way you look, it’s about the way it makes you feel and I for one know that when I have clean hair and I’m rocking one of my favourite CD outfits I feel amazing. PS - these are a few of my favourite things at the moment that always make me feel fab!
Approach everything with gratitude
I believe in approaching everything I do with the attitude of gratitude and this is something I practise daily. The first thing I do when I wake up every morning is write down 3 things that I’m grateful for in my CD Planner, which sets the tone for my day. It could be as small as “I’m grateful for my morning coffee” or as big as “I’m grateful that I get to go to work and do what I love everyday”. When you start doing this daily, you’ll realise just how much you have to be grateful for!
