The holidays might be over, but that means the dance year is officially starting! This is hands down one of my favourite times of the year and I love seeing dancers rested, recharged and ready and raring to absolutely own the year ahead! Getting back into routine can be hard when you’ve had a bit of time off, so here are 4 of my top tips that will get you ready to come back to dance.
Inspiration gives us both the means and the motivation to feel happier, more fulfilled and empowered to achieve our goals. The best thing about inspiration is that it comes in so many different forms! Whether it’s watching your favourite dance movie (give me any excuse to watch Center Stage), listening to a soundtrack that gets you moving or even reading a book about one of your favourite dancers, this is the perfect time to immerse yourself in things that ignite the inspiration in your belly! One of my favourite things to do is to write my goals down and stick them in a place I’ll constantly see them, like in my planner, on my bathroom mirror, beside my bed or even in my dance bag. Did you know people who write down their goals are 42% more likely to achieve them? So whether your goal is a triple pirouette, doing the splits or achieving higher extensions, writing them down is the first step to achieving them!
This is definitely my favourite part and I truly believe that wearing the right dance outfit will not only boost your confidence, but it will also improve your technique as well as performance so it’s important to find something that works for you and your body. The most important thing to remember is to be kind to yourself and make sure you ease yourself back into a busy schedule. You’re likely to have taken a bit of time off dance and movement over the holidays so I always recommend a bit of stretching in the few weeks prior to returning to the studio. I absolutely swear by my Power Bands from the Power Equipment Range and use them every night to stretch when I’m watching TV! They’re so versatile and can be used to stretch everything from your feet, hamstrings and quads right through to strengthening your muscles and improving turnout and the heights of your dèveloppè.
